Q: Will there ever be any new Passages audio dramas?

A:

Yes! In fact, a nine-part adaptation of “Darien’s Rise” will air this fall! Be watching for this and other Passages surprises!

Q: When will the Live Adventures in Odyssey episode (recorded in August 2008) air on the radio?

A:

This show ended up being 47 minutes long and so it probably won’t air on the radio. However, there will be a CD & DVD set coming out in May of 2009 which features the entire show!

Q: Will the Washingtons be coming back to Odyssey in album 51?

A:

The Washingtons probably won’t be back in album 51, but there will be several new families!

Q: How can I become a voice actor for Adventures in Odyssey?

A: We’re pleased to read you’re interested in becoming a voice actor for Adventures in Odyssey.  In response, we want to share some background information that may be helpful.

First of all, most of the actors and actresses who audition with us learn about Adventures in Odyssey through the efforts of experienced agents.  Not only that, but they’re primarily from the Burbank, CA, area (where all but a few of the episodes are taped), since we’re not in a position to cover the travel costs of our cast.  Most importantly, however, all of our shows are now recorded under a union contract, which requires that our entire cast be members in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

If you’re not a member of AFTRA and are hoping to break into the voice talent world, we’d urge you to contact your local radio or television stations and ask about the possibility of an internship.  Once you “get your foot in the door,” try to find an experienced individual who would be willing to mentor you in all aspects of radio and television acting.  You might also find it helpful to get involved in a local theater group; it’s possible they could teach you some “tricks of the trade” that would be useful in the voice world.

If you are a member of AFTRA and live near Burbank, please feel free to send along a voice sample, headshot and bio to our Audio Resources Department.  Our staff would be happy to consider your portfolio as a future prospect.  To get the mailing address for this department, you may contact us by phone at 1-800-A-FAMILY or e-mail questions@whitsend.org

Q: I haven't heard a new Adventures in Odyssey show in a long time. When will there be new shows?

A:

It's true; we haven't been airing new episodes lately. In August 2008, we celebrated our twentieth birthday as a program — after creating over 640 episodes! — and our producers felt it was time to evaluate the show as we head into the next 20 years. However, be assured that we're not cancelling the program! Our staff is busy thinking about and planning the future direction of the show. New shows are planned for March of 2010, with several special episodes airing between now and then. Be sure to listen to the Official Podcast to find out more information.

Q: What happened to Connie when she pushed the button at the end of album 50?

A:

We can’t tell you yet, but be sure to listen to album 51 to find out. Everything will be explained!

Q: When will Lucy and Jack get married?

A:

At the live show in August 2008, Lucy and Jack mentioned that they got married in Texas. Her name is now Lucy Cunningham-Schultz-Davis.

Q: Where exactly is the town of Odyssey?

A:

We hope you won’t be too disappointed when we say that Odyssey does not have a geographical location.  What we can tell you is that the writers of Adventures in Odyssey envision this community as being somewhere in the midwestern United States.

However, since Odyssey is simply a town found in the minds of the authors and listeners, we think that providing more specific details might make some young people less likely to use their imaginations to the fullest!  We trust you’ll understand, and we hope you’ll keep on tuning in to Adventures in Odyssey, wherever it might be!

Q: Why does Bart Rathbone’s voice sound different in the album, The Best Small Town?

A:

We regret to have to tell you that Walker Edmiston, who played Bart Rathbone, passed away on February 15, 2007.  He was a versatile voice actor, and his talent and friendship are deeply missed.

You’re right – Mr. Edmiston did provide the voices for both Bart and Tom Riley.  So, why does Tom’s voice sound the same in one particular episode, while Bart’s voice is different in this same program?  Tom Riley’s voice is the same because we used a previously recorded segment featuring Mr. Edmiston.  Our producers were able to reuse his actual words in this new show.

The Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast features a tribute to Walker Edmiston. The last album in which he was involved, Adventures in Odyssey: The Best Small Town, contains audio and a photo gallery in memory of Mr. Edmiston.

You can also learn more about Walker Edmiston in Adventures in Odyssey: The Official Guide, a 584-page book that details what goes on behind the scenes of Adventures in Odyssey.

Q: Will we hear any more Kidsboro stories?

A:

Yes, we will. We are working on more Kidsboro stories for the upcoming new season. Kidsboro characters will cross over into regular Odyssey shows.

Q: How long does it take to write an episode of Adventures In Odyssey?

A: It can take anywhere from a few days up to a few weeks to write a complete episode of Adventures in Odyssey

Q: I heard about a new Adventures In Odyssey Guide coming out. When?

A: All 584 pages of the Adventures In Odyssey guide are finally out!

Q: I just listened to Accidental Dillema. Does this mean that we'll never hear from Jason again?

A: We wouldn't worry too much about Jason being gone forever. Just stay tuned...

Q: Is Whit's End going to be closing down? Are you going to cancel Odyssey?

A: Don't worry...we are not cancelling Odyssey, but there will not be any more new broadcasts until Fall of 2009. We will be highlighting the best shows of each year from 1987 until the present.
