Description:
Continued frompart I...
Finally, Connie is on the sunny California beach with her friend Marcie. Connie asks Marcie about one of their old friends, Pamela. Marcie says the old crowd hardly sees Pamela now because she's become a Christian. Connie is surprised-Pamela was the wildest one of them all. But Marcie says that's all in the past. Then Marcie tells Connie about a great party that night at a house in Beverly Hills.
Connie isn't sure she wants to go, and Marcie thinks she's off her rocker. Meanwhile, back at Whit's End, Eugene has changed everything from how the electric trains run to the way ice cream sundaes are made. Tom comes in and tells Whit that some of the kids are complaining about all the changes. Whit promises to have a talk with Eugene to get the place back to normal-right after Whit and Tom pray for Connie. Back in California, Connie is having trouble spending time with her father. Bill Kendall is too busy to even have dinner with his only child. But Connie isn't totally alone. The doorbell rings, and in walks Pamela. She and Connie talk briefly about Pam's new life. Connie states emphatically that she's not a Christian. Pamela tells Connie about God's love for her, then invites her to a beach bonfire that night with some Christian friends. Connie says she'll think about it. Later, Connie sits by herself, trying to watch television. She is agitated and frustrated. Finally, as a last resort, she attends Pamela's beach bonfire.
Pamela is happy to see Connie and introduces her to their group's sponsor-Mrs. Nelson, the woman Connie met on the bus! Connie doesn't know how to handle all this, but Mrs. Nelson repeats that God is working on Connie. With that, Connie makes a decision to go back to Odyssey.
Once there, she immediately visits Whit. She tells him about her trip and why she returned so early. Then Connie says the words Whit has prayed for over a year to hear: "I want to ask Jesus Christ to come live in my heart." Whit cries tears of joy, praising God as they kneel to pray. In the center of the Bible Room, Connie Kendall becomes a new creation . . . and her real adventure finally begins.
Questions:
Why did Connie want to get back to California so badly? Tom told Whit that what happened to Connie in California was God's business. What did he mean by that? Both Mrs. Nelson and Pamela told Connie that God was putting people in her path to influence her. Can you think of people who have influenced you for God? How?
