Description:
Connie rushes into work, late as usual, and finds Lucy sitting at the counter. Lucy tells her that Whit is working with Eugene in the Bible Room. Whit and Eugene walk up, and Whit tells Connie that he wasn't expecting her back at work until after the holiday. Connie immediately tries to jump back into work, though only to learn that Eugene's inventions have virtually eliminated her jobs. Whit suggests that she vacuum the floor. Connie happily rushes to the task.
Whit notices Lucy, and they talk about her plans for the weekend. She's invited her friend Heather to sleep over. They're going to make a "sacred trust" with each other-a promise to always be faithful friends and never reveal any secret they tell each other. Whit thinks it's nice that the two of them want to deepen their relationship, but he is concerned about the idea of a sacred trust.
Before he can explain his concerns, though, the vacuum cleaner goes wild. Eugene increased the suction power of the machine, and now it's nearly wrecking the place! By the time Whit gets things under control again, Lucy has already left.
That night, Lucy and Heather go ahead with their sacred trust. To seal their pact, they exchange valuables-Lucy gives Heather an angora sweater, and Heather gives Lucy a necklace and locket. Lucy then tells Heather a special secret: Bobby Reynolds kissed her! But Heather has an even bigger secret: A couple of weekends ago, she skipped out of Sunday evening church service and went to a teen dance club!
Lucy is stunned and nearly falls over when Heather reveals that she's going again this coming Sunday night. Lucy tells her she can't-Heather's underage, and it's wrong! Heather says she just wants to have fun and suggests that Lucy come along. Lucy says absolutely not and begs Heather not to go, either. Heather tells her not to worry about it, then reminds her of the sacred trust they just made-no revealed secrets.
Lucy wrestles with her conscience-should she tell? The next morning, Lucy talks with her mother and decides that she should tell about Heather's secret. Lucy loses Heather's friendship as a result, but Lucy realizes that she's done the right thing.
Questions:
Did Lucy make the right decision? What would you have done? Why? Why were Heather's actions wrong? Do you agree or disagree with what Whit told Lucy about revealing secrets? Why? Have you ever kept a secret that you shouldn't have kept?
