Description:
After getting fired from her job at Whit's End, Connie decides to be a counselor at Camp What-a-Nut. She writes to her mother about the camp and the unusual activities that have occurred there during the past week. First, in her cabin are Lucy, Donna, Robyn, and Allison. Each has her own little quirk-Donna and Robyn love clothes and makeup, Allison is addicted to TV, and Lucy makes friends with a rebellious girl named Jill. Meanwhile, the boys-Jimmy, Jack, and Oscar-give athletics a bad name by severely botching both archery and canoeing, much to the dismay of their counselor, Fred Zachary. Later, when the girls go on a nature walk/camp out, Jill persuades Lucy to sneak away-something that is strictly against the rules--to see a beautiful waterfall and a herd of wild horses. That night, the girls bed down in their tents. Donna and Robyn complain about the dirt, bugs, and rain, while Allison continues to bemoan her lack of TV. Suddenly, they hear strange noises outside. The girls are instantly terrified. Allison makes things worse by telling stories of "the Goat-Man," a supposed monster that roams the territory. The noise moves closer until it's right outside their tent.Something lifts their tent flap. The girls scream in terror. The story continues in part II...

Questions:
Connie gave Lucy and Jill a warning the first time they disobeyed. How many "second chances" would you give someone who disobeyed? Are there times when it's appropriate to punish without first giving a warning? Donna and Robyn were obsessed with makeup and clothes, while Allison was addicted to TV. Do you have any obsessions that you need to let go of? If so, what are they? Lucy said she was sorry for hurting Connie. What did Lucy mean by that?
