Description:
Philip Glossman is back, and this time he's after Tom Riley's farm! Or at least part of it. He wants the land to build a new state highway. Since he works for the state Secretary of Transportation, he has the governmental authority to back up his decision. But the piece of land Glossman wants happens to be the place where Tom's deceased son, Timmy, discovered and rebuilt an old cabin. Tom has decided to clean up the cabin and let the kids of Odyssey use it for a clubhouse. When he, Whit, and Marsha check out the place, they discover someone is already living there! His name is Chapman, and he is a vagabond, a wandering "explorer of history". He agrees to help Tom around the farm in exchange for his temporary lodgings. But those plans are put in jeopardy when Glossman swoops down on the farm and informs Tom of his intentions. Tom and Whit try to fight for the land, but it's no use. Glossman holds all the cards. He brings in his bulldozers. He&'s just about to knock down the one memory Tom has left of his son when Mr. Chapman notices an unusual marking on the door frame. Chapman recognizes the mark as being carved by Johnny Appleseed! In fact, Tom Riley's orchard may have been originally planted by Appleseed! This makes the cabin a historic landmark, which means that Glossman will have to build his highway elsewhere. Justice triumphs after all in Odyssey!
