Description:
In the Bible Room, Connie finds Whit putting the finishing touches on a new invention, the Bible Education Audio/Video Research System, or "BEAVRS." Whit explains that it is an advanced educational tool designed to help the user with Bible questions. First, you pick a topic, in this case, the "names of God." Type it in, hit a button, and all the names of God appear on the screen.
Intrigued, Connie remarks that she didn't know that God had so many names. She just thought He was called Lord, God, Almighty, and that all the names meant the same thing. But Whit explains that each name has a specific meaning designed to reveal something about God. So Connie spends the rest of the episode learning specifics about such holy names as "Elohim", "Adonai", "Elah", "Jesus", "Immanuel" and, of course, "Yahweh". The point is made: Whether we're singing, praying, or even just talking about God, we must remember that in the Lord's Prayer, Jesus said, "Hallowed be thy name."
Questions:
Why does God have so many names? How can you talk about God in a way that lets your friends and family know how important He is to you? Have you ever used God's name in a flippant or blasphemous way? Why is it wrong to do that?
