Description:
The Barclays are audio-taping a story for the newest member of their family, Stewart Reed. The story is about them, George, Mary, Donna, and Jimmy, and how they visited a little town called Pokenberry Falls.
It starts just after George graduates from seminary. He’s ready to be a pastor. He has an immediate offer: senior pastor at Odyssey First Church. But George isn’t sure that’s the offer he should accept, especially when he gets a postcard from Pokenberry Falls that says simply, "Wish you were here". The postcard is followed up by a visit from a colorful character named Ellis Birch. He has come to ask George and the Barclays to consider moving to Pokenberry Falls so George can pastor their church. Ellis flies them there in a private plane owned by Pokenberry Falls’s leading citizen, Barry Lionel. Once there, they see what the town has to offer, or at least what Ellis and his wife, Vivian, want them to see of the town.
The story continues in part II...
Questions:
Why did George hesitate to take the pastor’s job in Odyssey? Why did something seem "strange" about Pokenberry Falls from the time the Barclays showed up? Have you ever had to move? What was it like?
