Description:
Connie is elated. Jason and Tasha are on their way to Whit’s End from the airport. The time has come for them to get married! The happy couple arrives, everyone extends warm and heartfelt greetings, and then Jason drops a bombshell. Since Tasha has to be back at work to train her replacement, and they have only a week in town, they’ve decided to get married tomorrow!
Needless to say, this tightens the schedule. Everyone rushes off into a flurry of activity. Jason goes to shop for a gift for Tasha and to scout out jewelry stores. Connie, who in her search for a career is learning to be a wedding coordinator, helps Tasha pick out her dress and flowers.
Then Connie assists Tasha in making arrangements for the ceremony and reception. Connie starts to call up Odyssey First Church, but Tasha stops her. She explains that they want to have the ceremony and reception right there at Whit’s End. Connie agrees, then says she still has to find out if the pastor is available. But Tasha again stops her. She and Jason have decided to use a justice of the peace instead of a pastor. This surprises Connie until Tasha asks her to be the maid of honor. Connie is flattered and flabbergasted, and she immediately agrees.
Later, while Jason and Tasha are ring shopping, Connie tries to get in touch with the justice of the peace. Jack wants to know why, and Connie tells him it’s for Jason and Tasha’s wedding. Jack finds this strange. When Jason returns later, Jack asks him point blank if Tasha is a Christian. Jason is taken aback, he says he really doesn’t know, but he assumes she is. Jack tells Jason that he should find out for sure before they get married. But Jason feels that everything will work itself out after they get married.
This leads to a heated discussion that ends up with Jack refusing to participate in the wedding, and Jason taking Tasha and storming out of Whit’s End. Jack grieves for them, and while he is doing so, Connie bursts into the office with more upsetting news: Jason and Tasha have run off to elope!
Jack is heartbroken. Connie comforts him and says maybe Tasha will come to Jesus after they get married. Jack says maybe she will, and maybe she won’t. His wife didn’t. Connie is stunned. Jack’s wife wasn’t a Christian? Jack says no, and he tells Connie about his wife’s last moments. Just before she died, Jack tried one last time to get her to accept Christ. But because a stroke had robbed her of speech and movement, Jack won’t know if she’s saved until he goes to heaven. He doesn’t want Jason to have to go through that pain and uncertainty. Jack says all they can do is pray.
Outside the justice of the peace’s house, Jason opens up about why he was so upset with Jack. Tasha says she doesn’t know what she believes about Jesus, and she doesn’t want to make any decisions now, either. The justice appears at the car window, wondering if they’re coming inside. Jason sighs, and then he says no. They’re not ready to be married yet. Jason takes Tasha to her hotel, then he returns to Whit’s End to apologize to Jack. Thankfully, Jack always encourages Jason to do the right thing.
