Description:
Max gets himself into a real "pickle." The class clown can sure work a crowd – but a good homework assignment? Forget it. He's more interested in joking about Mandy, who is the teacher's pet. His teasing of Mandy finally gets him more than detention: Mrs. Sweeney assigns them to work together on a project. While Max only wants to do as little work as possible and have fun, Mandy does everything she can to make the project perfect. After seeing Mandy trying to do the whole project herself, Whit confronts her. "We’re supposed to help people despite what we think of them," he says. Mandy begins to see how Max needs encouragement, so she gets him a birthday gift. She works more on Max’s part of the project until she realizes that trusting him might be the best encouragement she could give. The due date for the project arrives. Max, inspired by Mandy’s gift, actually completed his part...an electric-powered mouth that can crack walnuts! However, when Mandy calls him up to demonstrate it, it explodes. Mandy still praises Max for his work, and both students learn a lesson.
