Description:

Darien, Kyle the Old Judge, and Anna eat dinner and discuss plans. The Old Judge tells the three that they will be leaving in the morning. He asks Darien to bring Anna to Sister Leona to develop her gift. It is a hard parting for the four.

The group (minus the Old Judge) travels to Dorr where they meet Sister Leona. She serves them food and asks why they are traveling. Darien tells her that he is on a secret mission. He asks to sleep there for a couple of hours and jokingly asks if she has a pistol or a sword for him. She gives him Commander Soren’s sword, sword belt and sheath; they were a gift from the king to her order.

When Kyle and Darien leave the next morning, they pass a shepherd and Kyle’s radar goes off telling him Darien is in trouble. Meanwhile, Anna sees a man with a sword invading the convent.

Darien’s parents tell him the king’s men have been there. Darien convinces his parents to go to Gotthard for protection from the king. Darien and Colonel Oliver discuss options most of the night.

King Lawrence visits the convent and calls on Sister Leona. He interrogates her for helping Darien. He wants drastic action taken against the sisters.

  • The Old Judge told Darien the Unseen One rarely made things easy. Why would the Unseen One do this? What was something that you worked hard for? Did you appreciate the end result of that hard work? Read Hebrews 12:4-7. Why would God discipline those He loves? How would you compare discipline from God with discipline from your parents?
  • The Old Judge wanted Anna to develop her gift with Sister Leona. Who might be able to help you develop your gifts? What gifts do you think God has given to you? Read 2 Timothy 1:6. How can you “fan the flame” of your gifts?
  • Sister Leona told Anna she would learn only what she was willing to learn. How is that true for you, too? Can you think of a time you had a chance to learn something, but didn’t? Have you ever ignored a teacher or coach instead of listening to what they had to say? Read Luke 6:39. What do you think this verse says about learning?
